Query Text:

Looking for information about my relatives, or my husbands relatives. My Family: I was born in Caldwell, Idaho 1978. My Father Jerry Hanson Weber, Greenleaf,Idaho born 1934. His parents both came to Idaho from Kansas. His Father: George W.Weber from Burns, Kansas. Had 2 brothers Clarence & Laurence Weber. There was also a sister, and one child that died at birth. Their parents were Benjamin Franklin Weber,& Bertha Oberst-Weber. There is some question that this family were Jews, and that they changed their surname from Pinkleman to Weber, and converted to the Catholic church to keep people from finding out that they were Jews. The family left for Idaho in the early 1900's, and lived there the rest of their lives. His Mother:Estel Pearl Hanson-Weber Was born in 1904 in Jewel County,Kansas. Her father was Elijah Newton Hanson, and her mothers name was Jeannie Claybaugh-Hanson. There was one other child, Estel's older brother Verl. This family left Kansas for Idaho in the early 1900's and arrived in Caldwell Idaho by train. Elijah Newton Hanson homesteaded in Greenleaf Idaho, and was a senator in the state of Idaho. The family were long time members of the Friends(Quaker)Church, as Greenleaf Idaho is a Quaker Village, and home to the Greenleaf Friends Academy. My Mother: Marie Elizabeth Schmidt-Weber, was born in Cottonwood, Idaho in 1934. Her parents were Bernard H.Schmidt & Mary Ann Schmidt. She had 9 brothers and sisters. Charles,Leona,Dolores,Cletus(catholic priest), Ellen,Patricia,Bernard,Hildigard(Dicky), and my mother Marie. This family lived in Kuterville Idaho and was Catholic. Other family names that I can recall are Troutman, Mader, and Nuxoll(spelling unsure. My husbands family: My husband was born in Wendell, Idaho. He was the 5th child born to the family. His brothers and sisters are: Miles Zane, Vicky Dolores, TerriAnne, Bart, and Sheilla who died at birth. His Father Willard Shade Chisham, was born in Montroe Missouri, in 1920. He was out of a family of 16 children, and his mother had 5 sets of Twins. His parents were William Chisham, and Ina Morris-Chisham. His siblings that we can remember were. Carl Lincoln,Fewl,Jewel,Connie,Paul Penn,Pauline Pearl,Hazel,Donald,Ina Jean, Mina Dean,Ada,and Eunice. The family left Missouri for Idaho in the late 1920's and homesteaded on the Salmon track near Buhl, Idaho. His Mother was Sheilla Mardell Lehmann-Chisham, she was born in Idaho in 1932. Her father was Fredrick Lehmann, and her mother was Bessie Silgar-Lehmann. She was also born to a family of 16 Children. Some of her siblings were: Adolph,Emery,Kenneth,Lois,Bernice,Vida, and Orlo. Her mother was a Sligar, and the name Sarah Sligar is on a document that we have found. Her father was said to be the son of an Augustus Lehmann who may have hailed from Texas, and was said to have sailed back and forth from Germany to the United States many times in his life. Any help that you may be able to give would be appriciated. There are many stories about these familys, and tails that we have that can not be validated, or invalidated. The Chisham's have a story that the family was all on a wagon train with many children when the parents were both killed, and that other family's on the train took the children in. It is also said that the original spelling of Chisham at that time was infact Chisholm, but that the children when they grew up spelled it several different ways. Some of the other spellings were: Chism, Chizm,Chisham,Chisholm,Chishom. There is also question that the spelling of this particular familys name was once Chism, and was changed to Chisham because of a family dispute. Also like the Weber family, that is said to have changed their name from Pinkleman to Weber so that people would not think that they were Jews. These are just some of the stories that we know. As you can see our family is very hard to trace, because of all of the misspellings, and changing of names. Also because certin persons in both familys did not like the Govenment, and refused to keep records and births for that reason. I know that the truth is out there somewhere, I just need a little help to figure it out! Any help would be a big step in the right direction. Thanks for your time!
