Around 1840, 3 Crooks brothers moved from Rapides Parish to Catahoula Parish (Trinity). Stephen and Phillip Crooks' families are in the 1850 Catahoula Parish Census. I assume the 3rd brother Joseph (born 1805) died before 1850. I have found 4 Crooks who may be his children: 1. John Crooks - born 1835 - died January 10, 1863 in the Civil War (Co. A, 31 Reg't., LA. Inf.), 2. Joseph E. Crooks - born 1831 - died 1923 - buried at Trinity Presbyterian Church Cemetery (Co. B, 7th Battn., La. Inf.), and 3. Mary Crooks - born 1842 - died 1870/71 - married Gabriel Disotell at Stephen Crooks house in 1856 - Mary and Gabriel are in the 1870 Census of Catahoula Parish. Their oldest son is Joseph. Gabriel was in the 1st La. Cav. with 2 of Stephen's sons Augustus and Madison Crooks. 4. There is a fourth child who is a female - born 1835 - died 1850.
