My paternal grandmother was Helen Hendry/Hendrie Stewart, born 2 Dec 1880 in Kirkintilloch. Her father, Walter, died when she was quite young and she may have taken her step-father's surname, Allen. She entered the U.S. at New York on 10 April 1888. Married Charles Norris Paine on 28 October 1904 at Kearny NJ. He died at Hartford CT in 1954/55; she at New London CT 28 March 1974. Grandma went by the nickname Nellie. They had five children - Charles, 1915-1975; William, born 1919; Helen Margaret (Peg), 1920-2001; Albert, born 1922, and Walter 1924-1975.
