I was in Korea in 1952. My unit was 3 Div, 15 Regt, Co,L. t occurred to me that the family of Sgt. Robt Massengale of Cobb, GA do not know the circumstances of his death. The company was on a raid to attack Hill 117. In spite of being ambushed, he valiantly led his men in our response. When we were given the orders to withdraw, one of his men ponted to Robt who was lying near the Chinese. I crawled through fire covered by Sgt, Benny Hoover to get him. I brought him down a cliff where we were met by further fire. Benny Hoover eliminated them. We floated Robt down the Imjin River until we reached a safe area. Unfortunately, we lost Robert who our company commander, when he first saw him with his walrus mustache and glasses called him a caricature of the comic strip character, Pete The Tramp. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
