My mother told us that when my grandmother passed away, her confession was that she was Jewish. Her name was changed by my Grandfather, who was an SS officer during WWII, did so to protect her from being killed by Hitler's henchmen. She stated that her great-grandmother's last name was Detweiler. She did not devulge her real last maiden name. She was adopted by a family with the last name Knorck (American spelling - Knoerck)and she married a Koelber (American spelled). I am curious because my whole life I have been asked if I am Jewish and have always stated that I was German. Is Detweiler a Jewish name? We also have relatives with the last names of Linger and Werner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
