I am searching for the ancestors of my maternal great-great-grandmother, Mele Malamalama Pa (1854-1909), of the island of Kauai. She first married Joseph Kamehameha Ilalaole (1850-1890) and bore five children. She then married Fun-Kum-Liu Ah-Nee, with whom she bore my great-grandmother, Mary Ah-Nee (1895-1970). Mary first married Isaac Simeon Kaiu (1885-1958), and they had a daughter, Jennie Kaiu Akau (1912-1998). She then married my great-grandfather, Fook-Yee Chong (1882-1972), and had six children. My grandmother, Gladys Chong Tanigawa (1920-1996) was the eldest. According to one LDS record, Mele's parents were Hanohano Pa (1832-1902) and Koa Naehu (1837-1913). However, I found conflicting information there as well, connecting perhaps different individuals with the names Hanohano Pa and Kahoohanohano Pa to this family line. To further complicate finding relatives who may have done additional genealogy, due to the surname law kicking in only in the early 1900's, many of the Hawaiians in this line may have changed their surnames to Kahoohanohano, Hanohano or Panui. I have been unable to locate any information on a Naehu or Ah-Nee line. I plan to do research at the local stake of the LDS archives. If anyone would like me to contact them regarding any information I might find on these family lines, please email me. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
