I am trying to find information about the birth parents and/or siblings of my paternal grandmother. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Benson. Her nickname was Bessie. Her married name was Geiersbach. Her marriage license, dated November 14, 1923, lists her parents as Roy Benson and Emma Wilson. Her place of birth on the marriage license is indicated as Bay City, Michigan. Her residence at the time of her marriage is also listed as Bay City. Her age is recorded as 20. Her date of birth is recorded elsewhere as September 27, 1903. She died July 7, 1964, in Jackson, Michigan. My grandmother was raised in Bay City by a woman named Mary A. Benson. She never knew her birth parents; nor could she find them in her lifetime. She believed that she lived in an orphanage, perhaps in the Detroit area, before Mary Benson took her in and raised her. However, she was never able to confirm that information. No birth certificate has ever been found, but a letter from the Bay City Schools indicates that according to the School Census of 1915, "the age and address of Bessie May Benson is given as 11 years, and she resided at 515 Jefferson Street.
