Looking for relatives of Chung Keng Quee. Zheng Jing Gui (鄭景貴) / Chung Keng Quee - leader of the Penang and Perak Hai Shan Kongsi (海山公司) (1) The official name for Chung Keng Kooi or Zheng Jing Gui (鄭景貴) is Chung Keng Kwee (1829AD to 1916AD). There are two streets in George Town, Penang named after him, Keng Kwee Street and Ah Kwee Street. (2) Chung Keng Kwee was the third son of Chung 'Xing Fa' (鄭興發) who contributed more money than anybody else to the 檳城增龍會館 (The Zeng Long Association of Penang. Note: Zeng Long is also Hakka). Chung 'Xing Fa' came from the village called Xin Cun (新村) of Zeng Cheng county (增城縣) in Guangdong province (廣東省). (3) Chung Keng Kwee was the leader of the Penang and Perak Hai Shan Kongsi (海山公司) from 1860AD to 1884AD. Sometimes Hai Shan was called Wu Qun (?shy;群) and I think, the Wu Qun referred to; (1) Hui Zhou (惠州), (b) Da Pu (大埔), (c) Yong Ding (永定), (d) Zeng Cheng (增城) and (e) Jia Ying (嘉應). He was bestowed the title of Kapitan China (華人甲必丹). (4) Chung Keng Kwee had many sons and one of them was called Chung Thye Phin (鄭太?shy; named after Taiping formerly Larut). Chung Thye Phin was very rich and power. At one time, he issued his own currency. He built a hospital in Ipoh called Chung Thye Phin Hospital, Ipoh. (5) Chung Keng Kwee (鄭景貴 Zheng Jinggui 1829 to 1916) was the third son of Chung Xingfa (鄭興發), a Hakka, who came to Penang, Malaya, in the early 19th century as an indentured labourer. Chung Xingfa was from a village called Xin Cun (新村) in Zengcheng county (增城縣) of Guangdong province (廣東省). He was one of founding members of the Zeng Long Association of Penang (檳城增龍會館). (6) In 1893, the Hakka millionaire, Chung Keng Kwee (鄭景貴 Zheng Jing Gui) built a Chinese school for all the Chinese children irrespective of their dialects. Chung Keng Kwee made his fortune from the tin of Larut, in the present day town of Taiping (Peace in Hakka). (7) In March 1901 the Hakka Association in Penang established an Educational Institution called Chong Wen She (崇文社). The founders of this Educational Institution were: Chung Keng Kwee (鄭景貴) and 11 others.
