KALISH - KACZALSKY - KACHALSKY - CHACALSKIJ - KACZALSKI : Looking for anyone with knowledge of this family from Bialystock in what is now Poland. The earliest verified member of the branch that I'm researching was Elihu Kaczalski (a.k.a. Elias Kaczalski), father of Laebl Kalish who was born in 1880 and migrated to Philadelphia, PA, in 1902. Laebl's children fairly consistently used the name "Kalish," but they did have relatives (who I've been unable to find) who changed their surname to "Cousins." Leiser Kaczalsky, a possible relative, was living in New York City in 1913, at the time his 16-year-old brother (Abram) immigrated from Bialystock to join him. Their father, still in Bialystock at that time, was Alter Kaczalsky. Then there is Zelde Kachalsky, a widow who immigrated with her sons Abe (9 y.o.) and Moses (16 y.o.) in 1920. They joined another of Zelde's sons, A. Kachalsky, who was living in Brooklyn. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
