My paternal grandmother was Martha Lavinia (HILLIGAS). I have been intrigued by the HILLIGAS family ever since I discovered that four HILLIGAS women had married into the BUSH family. I am hoping that someone out therecan add to the data I already have and that I can add to theirs. Here is the data I have from the Bush family research. Mary "Molly/Molley" HILLIGAS was born 15 Mar. 1836 in Ohio and died 25 Sep. 1907 in Aurora, NE. She married Andrew BUSH on 19 May 1861 in Spencer, Owen Co., IN. Andrew BUSH was born 24 May 1833 in Carroll, CO., MD and died 23 Apr. 1916 in Marquette, NE. Andrew BUSH was the son of David BUSH and Fredericka NELLINGER. The couple had at least 5 children. This is a little history on these HILLIGAS/BUSH families. Francis Marion Hilligas with his wife, Barbara (BROWN/BRAUN)HILLIGAS and their children settled in Hamilton County, Nebraska from Stockton (Davidsburg), Jefferson Township, Owen County, Indiana in 1874. They made the trip with his sister, Mary "Molly" (HILLIGAS) BUSH, her husband Andrew BUSH, and their children In July 1875 Francis Marion HILLIGAS with his wife, Barbara, and their three children: John Liborius, Mary, and Rosella returned to Indiana. They soon traveled back to Nebraska, along with Francis' brother and nephew. Ed HILLIGAS, son of Francis Marion HILLIGAS did not know the name of the brother nor the nephew, but speculated the brother was James or Samuel HILLIGAS, as all three brothers settled in Nebraska. Laura Ettie HILLIGAS (WHITE): Laura was the daughter of Mariah WHITE, she was born in Owen Co., IN and died in Coal City, IN. She married Emery Franklin BUSH who was born 27 Oct. 1869 and died 12 Apr. 1958. Emery Franklin BUSH was the son of George Emory BUSH and Charlotte A. GUARD. The couple had at least 4 children. Mary Ellen HILLIGAS was the daughter of James G. HILLIGAS and Rachel VAN HORNE. She was born 18 Oct. 1848 Coshocton Co., OH, and died 19 Dec. 1911 in Polk Co., NE. She married John BUSH on 20 Apr. 1867 in Clay Co., In. John BUSH was born on 18 Nov. 1842 in Coshocton Co., IN. and died 13 Dec. 1909 in Polk Co, NE. He was the son of John BUSH and Fredericka NELLINGER. The couple had 12 Children. Their youngest, Glen BUSH, was my parental grandfather. Martha Lavinia HILLIGAS was the daughter of Charles HILLIGAS and Mary ROBB. She was born 29 Aug. 1886 in Silver Creek, Merrick Co., NE and died 24 Oct. 1993 in Monmouth, IL. She married Glen BUSHin Sioux City, IA on 26 June 1912. Glen BUSH was born 05 June 1891 in Osceola, Polk Co., NE and died 02 Feb. 1972) on 26 June 1912. He was the son of James G. BUSH and Mary Ellen HILLIGAS. The couple had 5 children.
