My name is Jim Maize and I live in Santa Rosa, California. There has been an old family album in my possession for a number of years and have recently discovered that it has no relevance to my family. I suspect it may have family ties to the Bernatz family. There are over 40 such photos---the time frame I would judge to be 1850-1890---many of these photographs were taken in photo shops in the Chicago area.---several are tin-types. I have no recollection how this album was acquired by me ----but now, deeply involved with my own family genealogy, I realize what a prize this would be for the right person. I therefore am attempting to locate a direct descendant of this family to present it to them without costs or any obligation. Knowing it is being returned to the proper family is my reward. There are very few photos that are named---the ones that are named are as follows with the name of the city where the photo was taken: Nic, Bernatz (Milwaukee, WI),V. Eppler (Ottawa, IL), Christ. Enzenbacher(Chicago), Frank Schulte (Milwaukee, WI) and G. Shatters(Shalters) (Hampshire, IL. I did locate in Chicago a Nicholas Bernatz, born 1859, cigar maker, son of John Bernatz and Elizabeth This album photo of Nic. Bernatz was taken at the age of 18-20, I would guess. I could suspect that this Nick. Bernatz could be the one in the album. I hope you will be able to help me locate a living descendant that should have this treasure. Thank you for this help.
