Query Text:

Conrad Niel & Elizabeth Brown--Pennsylvania Roots I am looking for information on a Conrad Niel born Mar. 2, 1834 in Pennsylvania. He died in Waterloo, Nebraska on Jan 11, 1907 and is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, which was once in Waterloo, now in Elkhorn. He married in 1855 on Christmas Day in Pennsylvania, another source says he married in Johnson County Iowa in 1864. No marriage record has been found. He married an Elizabeth E. Brown who was born June 12, 1834 or 1835 in Pennsylvania. For awhile they lived near Pleasant Valley Iowa in Johnson County. Later Minden Iowa (1880 census), She died in Waterloo May 4, 1917 (Obit.). She is buried next to Conrad Niel although the grave is no longer marked (obit). I have no information on the Conrad Niel ancestors and would like to know more about them. I would also like to know more about the Brown family. Elizabeth Brown's mother was Mary Brown. I do not know her husband or maiden name,. She was born June 1, 1801 in Bedford County Pennsylvania (tombstone). She died Nov. 20th,1879 and is buried in the Shelby County Iowa cemetery, where her birthplace is noted on the tombstone. Seven children were born to Conrad and Elizabeth. Their first born was David W., Jr., which makes me wonder if Conrad may have been David Conrad. I have never seen his name given this way, but a census gave this info. His first child is David W.. Jr. He was born in 1855 or 1857 in PA according to different souces. He later lives in Winslow, Ne. in 1908. Owns farmland in Waterloo & Valley, Nebr in Douglas county. David Niel died in 1922 and is buried in Prospect Hill, Elkhorn, Ne.THe second son, Joseph M. Niel b. 1858 Johnson Co., Iowa, died in Johnson County Iowa at age 2. His name may be a clue to the husband of Mary E. Brown., as sometimes the mother's father's name is given to the second male. Niel was also spelled Neil and Neal and may have other spellings. This family was found in Minden, Iowa (Pottawatamie County) in the 1880 census record. Lizzie as Elizabeth was called corresponded with a Ruth Kassinger of RFD 4,Mercerburg Penn. in 1909. Ruth addressed Lizzie as Aunt. Other correspondence was from Woodbine Iowa and Altoona PA. Would like to find parents of both Conrad Niel and Elizabeth Niel's father and Mary Brown's parents. I would also like to know who siblings were. There may be a connection to surname:Carolus in Altoona Pennsylvania.
