BAUMGARTNER : KELLER | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Query Text: |
The Baumgartners are not directly related to my Keller family, but Elizabeth Baumgartner Keller (Maiden name Steinman) is my ggrandmother. She was first married to Conrad Baumgartner. I thought this might be valuable to some of you on the lis, and I would like to get more information on Louisia who married George Keller, and any other Baumgartners mentioned below. Nov. 23, 1836 - Ship McLellan from Havre, France to New Orleans, LA- List shows Johanna Baumgartner 50 female from Baden, and Conrad Baumgartner 18 male from Baden. May 25, 1841 - Conrad Baumgartner (25 years of age) was married to Elizabeth Steinmann (19 years of age) in St. Louis, Missouri by Father John P. Fischer. Records found in the archives of St. Louis Cathedral (old). Conrad's parents listed as: Wendelin Baumgartener and Johanna Hubert. Elizabeth's parents: Jean Steinmann and Elisabeth Flore. Signatures: Johan ? (unreadable), David Louis Augsbourg, Conrad Baumgartner (Groom or his kin?) and other unreadable <www.rootsweb.com> Item from American Eagle, Friday 4/21/1843: "Conrad Baumgartner, Architect, Draftsman & Surveyor, Respectfully informs the public that he has opened an office at his residence at the corner of Second and Jackson streets, Fort Pickering." (outskirts of Memphis, TN) <www.rootsweb.com> "Shelby Co., TN Marriages & Misc. Newspaper Clippings 1835-1840 - submitted by Helen Rowland. Item from "American Eagle", Friday, May 30, 1845: "Married, at Fort Pickering, on the 22nd nst., by the Rev.Michael McAleer, Mr. Joseph Keller, of Memphis to Mrs. Elizabeth Baumgartner of the former place." This marriage is recorded at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul - record very old, very fragile and cannot be copied. Memphis, TN census 1850 Agatha Baumgartner, 63, is living with the Keller Family. Also a Mary Baumgartner, 8, and a Conrad Baumgartner, 6. Agatha's birth place is given as Switzerland.) In 1860 Memphis census none of the above are shown with Keller family, but a Johannah Baumgartner, 3, and a Henry Keller,16, appear. (Was Conrad's name changed, or?) Tenn.State Library & Archives - THE MEMPHIS DAILY APPEAL- p. 2, col. 7, 8/24/1861: " DIED: Mrs. Johanna Baumgardner, in her 76th year. Funeral from the residence of Mrs. Jos. Keller, on this Saturday morning at 10 o'clock." (Conrad's mother was named "Johanna". See marriage record, above.) In the marriage book for Shelby County, TN, on 4/11/1860 ), the license for marriage of George Keller and Louisia Baumgartner is witnessed by a Joseph Keller and a Mary L. Keller. I believe that George and Joseph Keller may be brothers, and that Louisia is kin to Conrad and the other Baumgartners that appear in the census as living with the Kellers in 1850 and 1860. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
