Am researching my family name of Scally.Specifically, my grandfather,James, came from Roscommon in Ireland and landed in Brooklyn at age 19. He was born at Castlestrange. Upon arrival in America, he changed his name to SKELLY. If others can do it, so can he. No other motivation. He relocated to Providence R.I. after meeting and marrying Nora Kearse,also of Ireland. We know little of his Irish family which is how he liked it!!Frankly, I don't know where to begin!There appear to be numerous Scally's running around in or from Roscommon. Any information on the origin and history of the Scally surname, would be appreciated. His mother was Mary Regan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
