My great, great grandmother was Eliza Cobbing Bryan. She married John Freeland, Sr. in July of 1844 at St. Paul's Chapel in Manhattan. He died in Dec. 1860 and she married Joseph Simonson, Jr. in 1864 in Hudson, N. Y. Eliza had an aunt Catharine who was married to the Rev. J. G. Cooper. He was the Rev. Joab Goldsmith Cooper who was rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Hudson, N. Y. 1808 - 1811. He was also a Latin scholar and wrote a commentary on Virgil which went into many editions which were printed even long after his death. The Rev. is buried at Christ Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, Pa. after dying Dec.13 - 18, 1832 at age 55. Catharine was said to have been born in New Jersey in 1791- 1792 and died in 1879 at age 87. She had a sister Margaret and a sister Ann plus other probable siblings. Margaret was Eliza's mother. The maiden names of Catharine, Margaret, and Ann were McQueen (and their father was John McQueen and mother Helena with a probable surname Willett. I would like to know where Catharine married the Rev. J. G. Cooper and when. Catherine and her sisters Ann and Margaret had a nephew Dr. H. T. Cox of Mobile, Alabama. His house was on New St. Francis Street between Hallett and Pine Streets according to the newspaper obit notice for Mrs. Catharine Cooper who was being waked from the house of her nephew at an unspecified city. I have since ascertained that the city was Mobile, Alabama even though Catherine had been born in New Jersey and lived at various times that I know of in Manhattan, Staten Island, and Brooklyn, New York. It came as a real surprise to me to find this nephew in Mobile, Alabama as I never suspected Southern roots for any part of the McQueen family. Obviously, Dr. Henry T. Cox's mother was a McQueen sister of Catharine, Ann and Margaret. I would also like to know the name of the mother of Dr. Henry T. Cox. I suspect it might have been Hitte (Mehitable) but this is a guess. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
