Edward Robert Dowdall died in England in 1890, aged 31. He was born in Ireland, possibly Galway. Desperate to locate his parents and birth. Only clue is from Edwards gravestone which states he was the son of George Dowdall of Gorey, Ireland. George’s wife may have been Emma. Emma who? We think her surname may have been Martin, and was sister to my Great Grandfather, Henry Needham Martin (from Galway). In 1886 when Edward married, his fathers occupation stated ‘Royal Irish Constabulary – retired’. Where can I locate records/details? I can find no evidence on 1881 census that George was ever in England, and as he did not witness the marriage of his son, assume that he was in Ireland. I also assume that from the inscription on the grave of Edward, that George was alive in 1890. Where in Ireland was Edward born? What siblings did he have? When did his parents marry? What was Georges wifes name? Where and when did George and his wife die? How can I find out where in Gorey George was living? Are there any census or population lists available for 1890/1900? As an aside, I believe Edward Robert married (England) an Isabella Ilett, daughter of Clark. No sign of the family here so suspect another Irish connection. Can anyone help - Please?
