RE: DORRIS, WHITE, WILLIS, MILLIGAN, KAHN(?) Prompted by a responder, Tom, and looking afresh,at my posted query of Mar 13th, I think I was not very clear about what I'm looking for. I am "familiar" (in a general sense) with what both of my grandparents did, where they lived, etc., from the time of their marriage (May 24, 1899 in Ouachita Parish) until their death (1936 for him, 1962 for her). And, in the case of my Grandmother (Mary Josephine [WHITE] DORRIS), I found her at age 6 with her family in Natchitoches Parish (something I never remember having heard while growing up). So, in her case I have traced back to my Great-grandparents (Green and Lizzie WHITE) at one point in time (1880). (After that, the fact that the 1890 census burned in a Wash., DC fire in the 1920s leaves an important period a mystery to us.) And, before that, I have no confirmed finding of Green and/or Lizzie WHITE, nor do I know Lizzie's maiden name. In the case of my grandfather, William Edward DORRIS, he consistenly (as consistently as any census data anyway!) says he was born in Alabama. But I've had no success finding him with his family from the time he was born (probably June 7, 1878), no finding until his marriage to Mary in 1899 when he is a couple weeks short of age 21. So, what I am searching for is any information on Mary's father and mother (Green WHITE and Lizzie WHITE) prior to (hopefully back to their parents) or after the 1880 census, any information on any of her siblings I didn't know (Sallie and David, for example). I knew Susan and Drury who show up in the 1880, and I knew Sarah and Margaret who were born after the 1880 census, but I didn't know any others who might also have been born after 1880. [I believe that grandmother's sisters Susan and Sarah married husbands with surnames of MILLIGAN and WILLIS, respectively.] And, with respect to my grandfather, Will L./William Edward/Burrell DORRIS, I'm looking for ANY information on him prior to his marriage in 1899. The only clue is that he says he was born in Alabama. I don't know of any of his siblings (if any), parents, etc. [One very stretchy possibility is that a Robert DORRIS is shown in the Ouachita old marriage records marrying "Addie KAHN" just two months after Will and Mary are married, and an "A Kahn" may have been a witness at Will's and Mary's wedding. Unfortunately, I've found no other evidence of Robert Dorris and Addie Kahn in any census' before or after.] So, it's the proverbial "Brick wall" on a number of fronts. Any information would be appreciated, including search directions/suggestions. Russ Hebert
