James William Scales born in Ireland around 1860 married Alice Gibson possible in England. Their children all born at Navan Ireland were: May born about 1882; Richard 1882; William 1885; Joseph 1887. Alice died at the borth of Joseph. James had two brothers who lived in Dublin. One was school master of a private school; other was an archbishop of the Church of Ireland.
