Hello All~ I just received my 2nd great grandmother’s (Melinda Kimbrough) death certificate. Listed as her father was Isaac Snordon, born in Virginia (her mother is listed as Virginia ---, also born in Virginia). The information states that she was born in Kentucky on 29 January 1833. I am curious about the origin of the surname Snordon (as well as about Isaac in general). An interesting thing is that a cousin (the informant’s [Lucy (Kimbrough) Gray] great granddaughter) has information and papers where Melinda used the name Toliver as well as Snordon. Neither of us knows about a marriage before the one to Thomas G. Kimbrough (born about 1826 in Kentucky. He and his family lived and owned slaves in Todd County for a period of time)—could Virginia’s maiden surname have been Toliver?? Thanks a million! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
