gggrandfather, William Albert Mc(?) was born in Potsdam, NY in 1851. His parents left to go west when he was an infant. His mother died enroute and his father left him with the Thomas Armstrong Family in St. Joseph, MO with the intention of returning for him when he got settled. Story goes that he was killed by indians and did not return. Wm. was adopted by Armstrongs. Is there a source of birth records for the Potsdam area that could be searched by date for a child with the last name beginning with Mc ? Is there a newspaper archieve.
