Can you help me find out more about my mother's family? My mother is Anna Dorothy McDaniel, age 90. (She now goes by Dorothy Larsen McDaniel.) She is still living near Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio at 2351 E. Sand Road (zip code 43452). She was born in Port Clinton in a house at Fulton and Fourth Streets on November 11, 1913. Her maiden name was Larsen and my Grandmother's maiden name was Agnes Bahnsen. (She was sometimes called Ina instead of Agnes.) I know my grandmother was born someplace in the Schleswig Holstein region of northern Germany about 1885 or 1886 and came to Port Clinton at the age of 3 with her parents and brothers (2 brothers, I think) and lived most of her adult life, after my mother's birth, in Gypsum, Ottawa County, Ohio with her husband, Martin Larsen . I would like to know the name of the German town in which she was born. Also, I'd like to know where her parents were from, where they were born and lived, etc. Her father's name was Hans Bahnsen and her mother's maiden name was Anna Claussen or Clausen. They were my great grandparents. They would have been born probably sometime around the 1860's and probably somewhere in northern Germany. My other great grandfather, Martin Larsen's father, was Yens or James Larsen. I was told he was in charge of the Standard Oil Company in Port Clinton. I believe he lived most of his life on Fourth Street and/or Fulton Street. I think he was born in Denmark. I was told his father's name was Lars Yensen. That's the way the Scandinavians used to name their children. When Lars Yensen had a boy, he named him Yens Larsen, Yens son of Lars (sen is Danish for son). I think my great grandfather changed his name from Yens to James, probably for the sake of Americanizing his name. I would like to know what town or district that side of my mother's family was from, also. As I said, I think they were from someplace in Denmark. I would have to think the Ottawa County courthouse might have some records of them. Any information you could give me, even if it's just to tell me where to start looking, would be quite helpful and much appreciated. I am now living in Boulder, Colorado but will be in Port Clinton later this year to visit with my mother. You have my email address and, if you feel the need to call me, my phone number is (303)440-7991. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Sincerely, Mike McDaniel (Dennis Michael McDaniel) P.S. I go by Mike, my middle name, because my father's first name was Dennis, also. His full name was Dennis V. McDaniel. He passed away in 1991. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
