Query Text: |
My g-grandmother, Florence Grace Hillis (b. 1876, Giles Co., TN, d. 1955), was adopted by Joshua (circuit rider, b. 1821, d. 1925) & Lydia A. Phelps (b. 1853, d. 1932) after her mother (name unknown) died, went by their surname & married Wiley Daniel Crowson (1869-1925). Her father, John Mac Hillis (b. 1841, d. aft. 6/1900) remarried & had another family. Our family has always heard there was a natural sibling (2-3, or most recently 1). Her half-sibs were Ben Hillis, Emma Hillis & Lula (Bessie?) Hillis of the Decatur/Florence, AL area (Lauderdale connections). Most recent info suggests Joshua (who picked Florence up in Giles Co. on horseback & took her to Limestone Co., AL to live) also picked up a brother & took him to Lawrence Co. to live with another family. If any natural sibs existed, we would love to find what happened to them. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
