Edgerton was my paternal grandmother's (Maria Edgerton) AND my paternal great grandmother's (Elizabeth Edgerton) maiden names. My paternal grandparents were actually 'half first cousins once removed' as grandfather’s maternal grandfather (Robert Edgerton) and grandmother’s paternal grandfather (Ralph Edgerton) were brothers. My grandmother, Maria Edgerton [Oct 14, 1877 Cartwright Twp, Ont,-Dec 18, 1959 Port Hope, Ont, m. (Mar 6, 1901) Samuel Archer (Nov 19, 1869-Nov 20, 1943) was the daughter of her father's second marriage (Mary F. Gibson). Her sibblings: Almeda May [Jun 4, 1880-Apr 8, 1904]; Mary Ann (Annie) [Dec 12, 1881-Feb 16, 1974, m. Andrew Sydney McQuade]; Francis Liilian [Nov 28, 1883-Mar 9, 1898]; Henry Arthur (Harry) [Aug 10, 1887-Mar 21, 1980, m. Della Nesbitt]; Norman Cecil [Apr 14, 1889-Feb 22, 1974, m. Margaret (Maggie) Green; step sibblings: Richard (Dick) Charles Edgerton [abt. 1869-Dec 15, 1927, m. Margaret Jane McKee]; John Ralph [Jul 3, 1870-Apr 12, 1873]; and by her mother's first marriage to William James Hylnad (Jul 16, 1839-Mar 1, 1870), Thomas (Tom) Hyland [Mar 17, 1866-Jan 27, 1941, m. Lucinda (Louie) Hyland]; Mary Jane [Nov 12, 1867-Sep 18, 1868]; Robert Hyland and possibly others. Maria's father, John Edgerton [May 25, 1834 USA near Quebec border-May 1, 1908 Cartwright Twp, Ont., m. Nov 14, 1876 Cartwright Twp, ON, (1) between 1868-1874, Elizabeth Polley (about 1845-Jul 8, 1874)] and (2) Nov 1, 1878, Mary f. Gibson (Aug 23, 1847-Sep 5, 1932) and Nov 1, 1878, Cartwright Twp., ONfarmed at L21 C5 Cartwright Twp, Ontario. Maria's grandfather, Ralph Edgerton, lived at L17 C11 Ops Twp at the time of his death in 1887. Maria's grandfather, Ralph Edgerton [Nov 21, 1802 Clonefeile, Clones Parish, Cty Fermanagh, Ireland-Jul 30, 1887 Blackstock, Ont, m. Mary Anne Nixon (1809 Coolalong, Cty Fermanagh, Ire-Jan 13, 1886), came to Toronto, Ontario, via Quebec, in approximately 1835. All his children lived in and around Orono, Ontario, except Elizabeth & Samuel. His Sibblings: John [1797- Apr 2, 1878, m. Margaret ??; James [b.1798, m. Isabella Nixon]; Noble [1798-Sep 30, 1820]; Francis [about 1799-Jan 28, 1862, m. Mary Ann ??]; Thomas [Oct 28, 1799-1876, m. Anne Alexander; male child [b. about 1800]; Margaret [b. about 1804]; William [b. about 1805-1838]; 2 children (1 male) [after 1806]; Robert [1808-Nov 21, 1900, m. Elizabeth Jane Leslie]***************** My Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Edgerton [Jan 8, 1831 Clonefeile, Clones Parish, County Fermanagh-Feb 22, 1923 Blackstock, Ont], came from Ireland at the age of 13 (in 1844) and lived with her uncle, Ralph Edgerton (1802-1887, above), until her parents arrived and settled on their own place. It is believed that she had another uncle who was a minister in Ireland. When she married (Mar 23, 1852, Enniskillen, ON) Robert Archer [1811 County Armagh-Jan 22, 1891 Balckstock, Ont], they first lived near Goderich but came back to farm in Cartwright Twp in order to be closer to their families. Elizabeth's sibblings: John (Jack) [Sep 4, 1833-Apr 26, 1903, m. Jane Archer]; Sarah [1835-Mar 28, 1904, m. David Hooey]; Jane [1840-Aug 1917, m. (1) John Thompson and (2) John Louise Bradshaw]; Mary Ann [Aug 1841-Nov 8, 1909], m. William Ward]; Matilda [1842-Nov 2, 1888, m. Frederick Culyer]; William [1849-1894 British Columbia, m. (1) Florence Mitchell and (2) Elizabeth Jane Creasor] and Thomas [Aug 12, 1851-Aug 15, 1914, m. Mary Oke]. Elizabeth's father, Robert farmed L15 C1 Cartwright Twp, Ontario. This is the same Robert [1808-1900] mentioned as a sibbling of Ralph Edgerton above. Robert's (1808-1900) and Ralph's (1802-1887) parents were John Edgerton (1770 Clonefeile, Clones Parish, Cty Fermanagh, Ire- Cloefeile, Clones Parish, Cty Fermanagh, Ire) and (m. 1807, Cloefeile, Clones Parish, Cty Fermanagh, Ire) Elizabeth Nixon (1780 Anaskilly, Ireland-1874 Cloefeile, Clones Parish, Cty Fermanagh, Ire) Any additional information on these individuals, their ancestors and/or descendents would be very much appreciated.
