Query Text:

I am primarily looking for my maternal great grandmother's family from Gross Wanzer, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. Their name was WILLE and Krüger. My great grandmother was Marie Charlotte Wilhelmine "Elisabeth" Wille born April 13, 1853 in Gross Wanzer. The other people on the ship manifest traveling with her are Johann Joachim "Heinrich" Wille born November 2, 1821 in Gross Wanzer; Dora(Krüger) Wille born about 1830 in Aulosen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany; Wilhelmina Wille born about 1862 and Fr born about 1866. Dora is the mother of the two youngest children. Elisabeth's mother died in Gross Wanzer before 1860 and her last name was also Krüger. The ship they came to the USA on was the Vandalia which left Hamburg on May 4, 1872. They first went to Chicago, IL. There Elisabeth married Chas. Meyer on September 28, 1872. He was from Eldena, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany born there on December 31, 1838. Gross Wanzer was in Prussia and is 37 miles from Eldena which is in Mecklenburg, so Elisabeth and Carl (Chas.) may have known each other before boarding the same ship in Hamburg. Heinrich and Dora stayed in the Chicago area. Wilhelmina married Fred Topel in Chicago. Frederich died at a young age. Carl (Chas) Meyer and Elisabeth Wille moved to Clayton Center, Read Township, Clayton County, IA before 1874 and began farming. They had 9 children in Clayton County. They then moved to Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa about 1890 and had two more children. They then moved to Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, where they farmed for a few years. Around 1905 they moved to a farm 10 miles North of Kimball, Brule County, South Dakota. First names of their children were: Charley who married Maria Anna Plos, Fritz(Fred) who married Mary Anna Mauer, Lena who married Johan Fritz Carl "Fred" Ihde, Anna who married Fritz Fredrich Frantz Ihlenfelt, Bertha who married Johan Frederich Herman Ihde, John who married Louise Llisa "Lizzie" Plos, Elsa (Elsie) who married Frederick John Hansen and William who did not marry. Two of the children died at an early age. Some of the towns Carl and Elilsabeth's Meyer/Meier children lived in are Garnavillo, IA, Elkader, IA, Modesto, CA, Kimball, SD, Mitchell, SD, Sioux Falls, SD, Rockford, IL, Sterling, IL, Blue Earth, MN, Fairbalt, MN.
