I am trying to find out more about my family background. My mother, Winifred Cornelia Miller, from St George Parish, Barbados, born August,1931, married my father, Roy Frederick CUMBERBATCH, from Swans, St Andrew parish, also of Barbados, born February 4th, 1930. They were married in England. She told me that her father George's last name was actually BLAIS (not sure of the spelling) but that her family took her mother, Eunice's maiden surname of MILLER. Apparently the proper spelling had been Mc or MACMILLER at some point, although it had long ago been shortened to Miller, but some of the family spell it MILLAR. Her maternal grandfather was scottish and she thinks he was a cobbler.(she is the youngest of 13 children and was a very small child when he died) Her grandmother was of mixed ancestry, and was never married to her great grandfather, whose family send for a wife for him from Scotland, I think. She also mentioned the surname Stewart in her family. Mr Miller always looked after the children he had with my great grandmother. On my father's side, his mother, Estelle Mayers was of Indian and Black ancestry, as far as we know. she was married to Cleophas Mayers, who used to drive a horse and buggy for a living. Any information you can help me with would be wonderful. My father now has alzheimer's and I think that there are a lot of stories about the family, but this is the first time I have tried to find any written info. thank you. In my mothers family, the name cornelia keeps getting passed down. It is also my mothers middle name. Ingred Cornelia Cumberbatch
