Need some assistance. My ggg grandfather was named James McDermott. James was married in Roscommon Ireland and had a family with a woman we believe was named Sarah Murphy. With Sarah he had several children. James was born in 1811 and died in 1888. Sarah I believe died in Ireland. After being married to Sarah he married my great great great grandmother Mary Nerney. They had several children of whom I can identify only a few, i.e. Thomas, James and Ellen. I believe his first wife boar him a child named Patrick whom he lived with in the United States when he came over. James, Mary and Ellen (and perhaps the boys) came to the US in 1886 and within a year Mary died of a tumor. Family history states that 4 of the McDermott boys (most likely from the first marriage) came to Pennsylvania and worked on the now famous Horseshoe Curve. I know that James lived in County Roscommon in the Strokestown area as did Mary Nerney. At some point it may have been part of County Longford. I have a very old address in Ireland which is Curraghroe, County Longford. I have been told this is now County Roscommon. On some delayed birth records here in the states it says Longford and on some Roscommon. James McDermott and Mary Nerney are buried at St. John's in Altoona, Pennsylvania. On his headstone it reads "County Roscommon". It also says erected by the Callaghan Family whom I believe one of is daughter's may have married into. I also know a lot of the family stayed behind and that the surnames were Bierne, Noone, Nerney and McDermott. If anyone can help I'd be forever greatful.
