Query Text: |
For Marion Co, IN - Searching for John Hamilton and his family in the early 1800's. He appears on the 1830 Census in Warren Township, as a man 40-50, with a wife of the same age, and having 7 children, from teens to less than 5 yrs old. A son was Benjamin Hamilton, known to his grandson as being "from Indianapolis, IN". He married Editha Unknown, abt. 1847-49. He served in the Civil War on the Union side, as Captain. (I can't find this in Civil War records, that is, not a B. Hamilton of this rank.) It may be that neither Benjamin nor Editha were born in IN, but came there from another state, probably before, but maybe after the Civil War. They are believed to have died there, but I have not found cemetery listings for either in Indianapolis cemeteries. Thanks for any help. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
