CLAY - Seeking information about German ancestors of Mary Magdaline (called Maggie) CLAY, b. abt. 1886, Houston, TX. Her father was Thomas J. (probably Jefferson) CLAY, b. Harris Co, TX. His ancestors go back to GA. Her mother was Mary (probably Mary Magdaline) UNKNOWN, b. TX (probably Harris Co) in 1861. She was the daughter of immigrants from Germany. They would have entered through Galveston, a major port in the mid-19th c. Mary's parents may have had the given names of Cornelius and Mary Magdaline. Frequently the generations would alternate use of Mary and Magdaline as their informal names, although each was given the full name.
