Searching the WOOD family , principally of Augusta Township, 1795-1850 on as mentioned in Thad Leavitt's History of Leeds and Grenville. I descend from Solomon WOOD married to Anna LAKINS, d/o John Lakins of Wolford[?]. Was this name ever LYCAN? Were they Native Americans? Other WOOD men connected to Solomon were: Alfred married to "Miss NEACHEY", died 1812 buried in Reeds cemetery. Had a son Anthony who married an EARL. Amasa (removed to Fingal, Southwold twp, Elgin County, ON ca 1816]; 2nd wife [?] was a BISSELL. Anthony [there were at least 3 in early days] married to Laura Bennett. Died ca 1835, mentioned as a Reverend (would be Methodist) Was this one the son of Alfred or a brother? One of Solomon's sons, Amasa married Luretta NETTLETON d/o Daniel NETTLETON and Deborah HURLBURT, and removed to Ogle County, Illinois, USA ca 1840. Solomon's son William WOOD married Catherine ROSE, d/o John ROSE, UEL of Matilda and removed to Dixon's Corners were he died in 1885. (My line) JOhn Land WOOD married Elizabeth HOWARD and lived out his life in Maitland [?]. A couple of his sons went to Belleville, ON. There are other children, too, but I'll pause here for following questions: Was William WOOD who maried Mary BASS connected to one of these families above? Was Thomas WOOD, UEL, married to Dorcas Elliott in Augusta another brother? Is there any connection to John WOOD , and his son David of Kitley? Is any one out there connectioned to these WOODs? Any help with these names appreciated. The WOODs are my brick wall. I am happy to share what I have with anyone interested. Maridel Crawford-Brown
