Query Text:

Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Seeking any info concerning my great great-grandparents, George and Jerusha "Ruch" Viers Faulkner. My grandfather, George died as a young man living a young wife with no assets and a son not yet 2 yo. Family oral history details that Jerusha's father-in-law purchased a small farm (52 ac =/-) off the Pembroke Rd. between Williamsburg and Trout.I have a copy of the original hand-written deed--dated to Jerusha and her son, Gordon Holland in 1898--recorded at the Greenbrier Co. Courthouse in Lewisburg. Jerusha continued to live on the farm until her death. At about age 40, Gordon married Nannie Belle Cochran (believed to be born in Botetout, Co.,VA and later moved to Monroe Co., WV. Her father--Isaac Cochran??? We believe that Cochran is an Americanization of the Irish "Cochorane" but had not had opportunity to validate. Very anxious to lock down details, dates, etc. regarding imigration of both the Faulkners and the Cochrans. Nannie was about 16 when they married so Gordon was quite her senior. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage in at 1946-48. Nannie and Gordon had 12 children (10 sons/2daughters). Their oldest son, Samuel "Glen" was my grandaddy. Other bro. were: Ozwald "Ozzie", Wayne "Merle", Elmer Theodore "Ted" (Pearl Harbor Survivor, Cecil Ray, George Warren, Gordon Holland Jr., Clyde Delano, Palmer (died of dystentery as a child), and Howard (died as young man as result of broken leg he received from a fall from a truck on the night of his high school graduation. He actually died some time later at Summers Co. Hosp.in Hinton, or gangrene. The two daughters were Nancy who married Hershell Wyss (Career Navy-ret in Arizona) and Margaret who married Bill Stewart. The family farm was recently put into a family trust LLC to preserve it for future generations. We still have annual family reunions (at least 45 years that I've been around for) held the last full weekend in June every year. Sat. is a family field/fun day and dinner is promptly at noon on Sun. We welcome all Faulkners, Faulkniers, Fulkners, Faulconers, Cochrans--all neighbors and friends past or present and any and all would-be family. Ya'll come . . . Many thanks for your time and attention to my query and my blessings on your own search. Beth Faulkner Carroll
