My husband's mother's birth father was Woodrow Brown. His father was Columbus Brown, his mother Ida (possibly Nail). This is what was written in the family bible. Woodrow lived and died in McAlester, Oklahoma. He never married my husband's grandmother, Margaret Lucille Beck. They had a daughter Gwendolyn Geneva Brown. She went by the name CARMON (step-father) her whole life until she married Lynn Bailey. She didn't know her father's name until before her death in 1986. We have been told by people who knew Woodrow that he was native american. His mother was 1/2 blood--Chickasaw/Choctaw. Verified by census records in 1930. Gwen had Woodrow's address in McAlester, but she was afraid to meet him and upset his life. He knew about her. He also knew in 1950 he was a made a grandfather when Gwen's first son was born because Gwen's uncle told him face to face. (We have a witness who was there). All Gwen knew in 1985 was that he had a wife and family. She never met him. I want to find about him for my husband's sake and in his mother's memory. If this rings a bell with anyone, please let know. Gwen was a wonderful woman and her half brothers and sisters should learn all about this beautiful woman. His family still lives in McAlester, Oklahoma. -Robin Bailey | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
