Surname(s):

CARLSON : JOHANNESDOTTER : KARLSSON : MAGNUSON : MATTSON

Query Text:

My grandfather's name was Carl John Carlson (Although it may originally have been spelled somewhat differently eg. Karl Johan Karlsson or ???) he was born near Karlstad Sweden in 1866 per my existing research. My grandmother's maiden name was Wilhelmina Kristina (or Christina) Mattson (or Mattison or Matteson or even Johannesdotter) She was born in Bohult, Aker parish in Sweden on January 25, 1864 and first emigrated to the USA in 1888 and again came back to the USA in 1895 after a visit back to Sweden. They were married in December of 1897 in New Haven Connecticut at the Swedish Congregational Church. I have done an internet search and found that an existing Synagogue was originally a church with the name: Swedish Congregational Church. It is located in Deep River which I understand to be near or a suburb of New Haven. It was built in 1892 so this sounds like a good candidate for the location of the marriage. I am trying to find out about my grandfather and his relatives and ancestors. I have a lot of info regarding Wilhelmina. She actually still has a nephew who will turn 104 years old this May and who my family and I visited this May in Sweden. Carl had a brother named Gustaf who like himself traveled to the North West Territories of Canada which is now Alberta and home steaded. I have also discovered that Carl John Carlson had/has a cousin named Axel Magnuson who was living in the Chicago Illinois area as of 1951. He attended the wedding of my Uncle Gustaf Adolf Carlson in August of 1951. I also believe my father had/has cousins living in the New Haven area of Connecticut. My aunt indicated in her memoirs that when my grandfather Carl John Carlson (or spelled differently originally?) met Wilhelmina Mattson (or Johannesdotter) when she was taking care of a niece (of my grandfather) whose mother had died. This would indicate that Carl John Carlson had a sister or brother living in the New Haven area. Subsequent research shows that the sister's name was Kristina. She could have used the sir name of Carlson or even Carlsdotter which was the custom in Sweden at the time. I would like to make contact with any of the descendants of these cousins for my Family tree research.
