Searching for any information regarding Alexander Maclean (or McLean), my great- grandfather. He emigrated to NZ from Inverness, Scotland, as far as I can ascertain, between 1855 and 1861. He was with his wife (nee Catherine McLeod) and may have had children with him. He was later a farmer and possibly had a property in the southern region of the south island. He left my grandfather as a young child with Catherine's mother in Scotland. I have found an Alexander McLean, who with his wife, son and two daughters arrived in Otago from Glasgow on the "Alpine" on the 12th September, 1859. This fits the possible dates, and may be him. There is also a possibility that he was not married at the time he departed Scotland, as no record of a marriage can be found. There were several Alexander McLeans on Electoral Rolls around Otago, but I have not been able to confirm if any of these were the right one. I would appreciate any information from Macleans or McLeans whose ancestry in NZ dates back to the above period. Bruce Maclean | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
