Miss ___ Harper daughter of Harpers Ferry owner; she married Mr. ___ Powell: Want to exchange information about Harpers Ferry descendants; Miss __ Harper was daughter of Mr. Harper who once owned Harper's Ferry per book, “ The Bates Family of Old Virginia” co-authored by Aubrey Raleigh Bates who was her g-g-grandson; Mrs.__ Harper Powell had my g-g-grandmother Mary Powell (Mrs. Mary Brown) born about 1803 NC; died Aug 12 1883 Everette Spgs, Floyd County, GA at the home of her daughter Sarah Brown known as Sallie Ann Rosa Bates. Mary may be buried on Brown Homestead Farm in Sugar Valley, Gordon County, Georgia. Mary Powell married about 1822 to Jesse C. BROWN a Millwright born about 1793 somewhere in NC; died Feb 1850 at Baugh Mountain Community, town of Sugar Valley, Cass County, (renamed Gordon County) GA. Jesse Brown's parents are unknown but, are related to grandfather of Gov Joe Brown of Atlanta, GA son of Mackey Brown born 1797 descendant of William Brown born about 1687- died 1757 and Margaret Peggy Fleming Brown born 1701 – died 1801 both from Londonderry, County Ulster, Ireland and arrived in America around 1745; moved to Rowan County, now named Greensboro, Guilford County, NC; Margaret is buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson County, TN. Some of their sons settled in Belton, Anderson County, SC and Pendleton Dist, SC. Children of Mrs. Mary Brown and Jesse Brown (1) Obadiah Brown birth & death unknown; (2) Nancy Brown known as Nancy Black born 1822 or 1823 in NC married William Harrison Black & had son Asbury Parks Black.
