I am trying to find more information on a woman named Lucinda (Elizabeth) Williams, whose family was supposedly from Clinton Co. Mo. She was married to a man name John Smith Newberry in Clay County Mo. on Dec. 24, 1837 by a man named Joseph Holbrook. This marriage is recorded in Holbrook's journal. She may have been from Kentucky and moved to Missouri with her family. They were Mormons in the volitile counties of Clay, Caldwell and Carroll Counties of Missouri in the late 1830's. After the exodus of the Mormons from Far West in 1839, John and Lucinda seem to disappear, but later surface in Iowa and for a short time in Nauvoo, Illinois. John Smith Newberry and Lucinda Elizabeth Williams had five sons, and they lived in Blanchardville, Wisconsin up until the 1850 census. After that they disappear and their children end up living with Newberry family members in Shelby Co. and Lee Co. Iowa. Their one son Ed is found living alone in Cass Township in Shelby Co. at the age of 16. Another son John Marshall was a photographer in Lee County Iowa. We have no information about Lucinda's side of the family, who her parents and siblings were, where they came from etc. We would be deeply grateful if any of you has any information to share. Sincerely and thanking you all in advance. Sue Simonich | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
