Shadrick Alexander Lofton, son of Riley Lofton and ? (?) Lofton, was born August 9,1834 in Atlanta, Georgia. Some records reference his birthday to February 9, or September 9, but August 9 seems more obvious. Also the 1900 Census refers to his birth year being February 1840. This is definetely him though. He served in the Civil War, and had a silver plate in his head. He married Mary Susan Kuhn, a full blood Cherokee Indian. They had the following children: Frances "Fannie" Lofton (1883-1968), married Frederick Lee Webb (1888-1967) Benjamin Franklin Lofton (1888-1960), married Elsie Mae Peters (1900-1985) Alexander Lofton (1892-1980), married Lona Elizabeth Billings (1899-1995). Mary Susan Kuhn Lofton died between 1900-1910, and Shadrick Alexander Lofton remarried to Annie Holmes who died before 1926. Shadrick Alexander Lofton died 18 October 1926, at the age of 92, in Bridgeport, Belmont County, Ohio. He is buried at Sun, Fayette County, West Virginia. He spent much of his life in the Greenbrier, White Sulphur District in West Virginia and Virginia and in Sun, Fayette County, WV. He also lived in Yellowsprings, Rockingham County, Virginia and in Hardy County, West Virginia. He owned a farm in West Virginia at one time around the Civil War. It is said that he had a family or two before the Civil War and after until he married Mary Susan Kuhn. Here are the census records since his birth (1834): 1840 Census---- found nothing 1850 Census---- found nothing 1860 Census---- found nothing 1870 Census---- found nothing 1880 Census---- found an Alexander Lofton and Mary A. Lofton in Hardy County, WV It says that he was from Georgia, birth year is 10 years too young; ?? 1890 Census---- Burned in Washington, D.C. in 1921. 1900 Census---- In White Sulphur District, Greenbrier County, WV with Mary Susan Kuhn Lofton, and there 3 children. Name under Alexander Lofton, Age 6 years too young, but definetely him. 1910 Census---- Found living under the family of "Shields" He was listed as Head of household but scratched out and was not rewritten what he was. This is definetely him, but age 4 years too young. It says he is widowed, I assume it is from Mary Susan Kuhn Lofton. 1920 Census---- found nothing. 1926--- Died | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
