Searching for family hisotry - Reffling, Wetteland, Grondahl, Swennes, Oftedal, Lindner, Hilse. • Christoffer Jacobsen Reffling and Karen Christiansdr Sander, of Christianna (Oslo) Norway, had three children who lived. Aksel (aka: Axel or Agsel), Carrelius, and Valborg Jonine. Axel Reffling, emmigrated to the U.S. in 1881, and ultimately settled in Portland, OR. His mother, Karen, died around 1865. Christoffer remarried Pauline Amundsdatter. They had four children who lived: Frithjof, Ingeborg, Mary (aka: Sophjie), and Julia. Our family history before Chistoffer, Karen, and Pauline is almost blank. • Wetteland family history is fairly well documented. They hail from Oregon>Minnesota>Norway, emmigrating to the U.S.from during the 1880s. My great-grandparents Torger & Maren Wetteland, and six children emigrated first to Minnesota to live with brother Sven, who helped found and later became President of Augsberg College in Minnesota. Maren & Torger and the "immigrant six" children (as they have become known) then went to Portland, OR. The six Wetteland children are: (in order of age, oldest first): Katherine (Kitty), Beathe, Theodore, Sven, Astrid & Christopher. Kitty Married Wilhelm Grondahl, Beathe married Thorvald Swennes, and Astrid married Axel Reffling (my grandparents). Maren's maiden name was Oftedal - hence the search for Oftedal history. • On my mother's side: Her paternal father was Arthur Emil Lindner of Baltimore, MD, origininally from Chemnitz, Germany. His father & mother were Carl Bernard Lindner & Amelia Schuman, also of Chemnitz, who emmigrated to the U.S. in 1891. History before this is blank. Mother was Sophia Minnie Hilse of Pennsylvania (town unknown). Her parents were Frederick Arthur Hilse & Augusta "Minnie" Mentzel, both from Germany (town unknown). I have no history of them before this.
