Query Text: |
I am seeking information about the ancestors of Macque, Jacques and Jean Le Pla who went to England around 1626 to work on draining of Fenland in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. They were born around 1622 at Bouire, in the Pas de Calais area. They were French Protestants who were exiled to the Netherlands by the Spanish Inquisition from where they were recruited by the Dutch engineer Vermuyden to go to England. I believe that the area in which they lived would now be in Belgium. The name subsequently was anglaised to Lepla and Leplaw. Several of their descendants emmigrated to Australia from 1855 onwards.
