My great-grandmother, Minnie Emilia Nelson, was born in Chicago in 1887, but her parents seem to have missed the census in 1880, 1910, and 1920--though her mother MAY be a widow I found in the the 1920 census. Minnie gave her father's name as Charles Bernard Nelson and I remember being told that he was Norwegian--either he or his father was born in Bergen. Charles's wife was Ella Johnson (pronounced Yanson by my grandmother) and she was Swedish. I would like very much to find out more about my Scandinavian heritage and these people in particular. There are so many Charles Nelsons in Cook County's death records, it is impossible to know which death record to request. Also, I'm not even sure he died in Cook County. Any ideas on where to look or how to get past this particular wall? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
