Looking for information on a branch of Lavertys that trace back to Stevenston Scotland. I believe they came to America from that port; however, they may have been originally from Ireland (1-2 generations removed.) I believe part of this branch settled in Appalachia (Eastern KY?)and the part settled in the New England area. I believe the Appalachia offshoot converted to the Lafferty spelling. There has traditionally been a James and a John in each generation. My GF(James Baird L.) born in Newburg, NY, raised in Newport, RI. GGF(John L.) was chauffeur at Glenn Farm in RI. GGF is buried in Newburg, NY. GGGF(James L.) was born in Stevenston, Scotlandand was married to Elizabeth Baird (aslo from Scotland). I have other more detailed info that I will add later...can't remember it right now. Thanks in advance. | |||||||||||||||||||||
