Hi, I've been doing research on my SAM ancestors. My grandfathers name was Murphy Sam. He lived in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana in the town of Plaisance, Louisiana. His parents were Edward "Wesley" Sam and Irene Charles. My great grandfather's siblings were Arestide Jr., Wallace, Bentley, Marshall, Rosalie, Imel, and Anaise Sam. He was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on July 25, 1900 to Arestide Sam Sr. and Leonora Young. The parents of Arestide were Jean-Pierre Sam and Euphemie Rideau. They are recorded as being free blacks living in Grand Coteau in the 1860 louisiana census. I also found a marriage record of them getting married in 1856 in Lafayette, Louisiana. I've also found his siblings. They were Sydonie Sam(who married Jackson Stephens and Jean Malveau), Willie Sam(who married Aimee Rideau), Ambrose Sam, and Jean Sam. My g-g-g grandfather, Jean-Pierre Sam's, siblings were Angelique Louis Sam, Adolphe Sam, Casimer Sam, and Don Louis Sam. Angelique married Jean Baptiste Simon in 1837 at Grand Coteau. Adolphe Sam married Melite Briscoe in 1871. Don Louis Sam married Azelia Herdandez in 1843 in Opelousas, Louisiana. I also found a marriage contract dated 3 Nov 1836 between a Louis Sam and Babet Masse of St. Landry Parish. They are listed as free blacks. The record mentions my g-g-g grandfather and his siblings in the record. On his marriage record, Jean-Pierre Sam lists his father as Louis Sam. On the 1860 us census in the household of Jean Baptiste Louis Louis( Angelique Sam's husband), there is an Adolphe Sam(b1830), Philomene Sam, and a Clemance Sam(b1799). I found an 1820 marriage record between A Clemance Marie Masse(free) and a Pierre Barnabe(also free) occuring in Grand Coteau. The record lists Pierre Sam and Francoise Masse as her parents. These are mostly likely some of my ancestors from a previous generation. I was wondering whether or not anyone has any information about these SAM ancestors. Any other info would be helpful.+ | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
