My great grandfather, Anthony Barret was apparently born in County Mayo on 26 April 1854, left for South Africa's Kimberley diamond fields probably around 1880. He met a Swiss novitiate, Karolina Muller en route and they landed up in Kimberley, where they married. There is no record of his time in Kiberley, apart from some newspaper clippings as the records were destroyed in a fire. I am looking for details of the Irish side. Anthony died in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe now) in 1934. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
