Hi, I am Carrie Hawk I am researching my paternal grandmother's family. Mamaw was Sina Marie Estep (Estep) she was b. 1908 in Johnson County Kentucky, she her other siblings were John Estep b. 1911 d. 1980, Emma Estep (King) b. 1913 d. 1994, Vana b. 1906 and Cora b. 1904 both passed in childhood. Mama's mother was Mary Wadkins Estep. With help I located a marriage record for Mary WAdkins daughter of ?? and Nancy. Md. Henry Estep Dec. 23, 1896 in Magoffin, bride was 16. I have positively found Mary on the census from 1900, 1910, 1920. There are many Mary Wadkins/Watkins on the 1880 census. Mary was buried in Patty Flat Cemetery b. Jan 19, 1876 d. Sept 1960, but on the 1900 census it was recorded that her DOB was April 1880. On the 1880 census in Magoffin County there is a Mary Wadkins age 4 in the house hold of Nancy Wadkins widow age 38, with children Elsey Ann, 14, William 12, Benjamain 10, Samuel 6, and Polly Caudell 74 widow(Nancy's mother) And on the 1870 Census Breathitt County, in the household of Thomas Wadkins age 51, Nancy 31 (keeping House), Elainne 4, William 2, Ben 1. I have hit a brick wall, I have tried researching Caudell's that married Wadkins, as of yet nothing. I cannot located a Thomas Wadkins marrying a Nancy. I did locate a Thomas Wadkins with a daughter Nancy Wadkins. Mamaw said that she was part indian on her mother and father side. Stories were that Mary was a Coldiron but I have found nothing to that, Aunt Emma and Uncle John's birthcertificate both have Mary Wadkins as Mother, just one has Watkins and the other had Wadkins.
