I am an Amateur Genealogist searching for my g grandfather's parents. His name was Thomas Jefferson Wray born 1834 in Wilson CO., TN (sometimes spelled Ray or Rhea on census). In censuses I have found he was born in Tennessee and his parents were born in VA, except 1 census, the 1900 IT says his parents were from Georgia. T. J. Wray died in Dekalb TX on 10/16/1921 and is buried in Woodmen Cemetery, Dekalb, TX, Bowie County, along with his son Jimmie, son John K. and wife and other relatives. I have written to Austin TX for his death certificate from and they do not have one. Here is some data on T J Wray and decendents. From census I think his father was from VA. On a WFT which is unproven data, his first wifes father and mother may have been Gross Scruggs Robinson and Sarah Anderson. No proof yet. But might be a lead to his parents. The following is a briefing. Let me know what you think. My Grandmother said T J Wray and his brother (William?) Were orphaned at a young age. The first census 1850, I found on him is in Wilson County unknown township #884884 w/ a Caroline Wade as head of household and he is 18 and 2 lines down is listed William Wray 14 (brother)? Thomas Wray is listed as a carder and his brother an operator. Is this a cotton mill? In 1860 he is listed as Thomas Rhea Wilson County, Tn, Lebanon Township as 27 w/ wife Ellen 29, Henrietta daughter 3, and Emily 1. It also says Ellen was born in VA. Both girls were born in TN. In 1870 he is listed as Wray, Thomas 35, Brick mason in Overton Co, Tn District 6 w/ Eondes (cannot read age probably 36), Henriettie 13, Emaly 12, Thomas 9, and Elendes 6. In 1880, his listed as Ray, Thomas J. 45 farmer w/ Ellen S. 45,Henry Etta 21, Emily 19, Thomas 18, and Ellen 15. Says fathers birthplace is VA. Ellen died sometime between 1880 and 1884 because he married my great grandmother, Sarah Permelia Carr, daughter of William Carr and Eliza Jane Copeland, Carr, Canon, 10/9/1884 in Overton Co Tn and started his 2nd family. 1890 Have not found him In 1900 he was in Indian Territory OK w/ 5 children. He had 2 more while living there. In 1910 he was in Bowie County, TX w/ 6 of his 7 kids by his 2nd wife. Sarah (my grandmother). They moved from Overton County, TN, then to Hall County, Texas, then to Indian Territory, OK, then back to Bowie County Texas where T. J. Wray was a trustee in the Church of Christ (1912) in Delkalb, TX before he died there in 1921. Facts: His first wife’s name was Ellen S. Robertson or Robinson buried Ray Cem., Overton Co They had 4 children: Henrietta Wray Or Ray (married James Camel Dillon) b 2/16/1857 d 11/6/1927 buried Ray Cem Overton Co Emily Wray or Ray (married A J Spicer) b around 1860 buried Spicer Cem Overton Co Thomas F Wray or Ray b. 1862 m Alice Gunnels on 1889 d 1/6/1947 buried Allons Cem Overton Co Ellen Wray or Ray (marrried Moses L Wright) b. 1865 and his second wife was Sarah Permelia Carr, b 1855 they had 7 children: Willie B (Benny) Wray married Ethel Smith died Big Spring, TX Howard Co James L. (Jimmie) Wray b 1887 in TN (Died from malaria in Dekalb, Texas, Bowie CO.) Maggie Jane Wray (Neves) b. Nov 15, 1889 in TN d. 4/1/1981 Big Spring, TX (My Grandmother)m Grady Henry Neves Mattie M. Wray (Copeland) b. 11/9/1892 in TN married Millard E Copeland b 1860 TN Benton Wray b 1895 in TX m Ethel V Thompson Floy Wray (Copeland) b 1/26/1900 in Indian Territory, OK d 1977 married Hugh Lee Copeland John K.
