Currently conducting research on the Wightman family of Henry County Virginia or Martinsville. I know of a John Wightman Sr. who was born in Scotland around 1797. His wife's first name was Elva/Elba? Dad was told that a mother and two sons came from Ireland to America in early 1800s. My family is related to the Turner, Holland, Cole and Slaydon families of Virginia. My Dad believes that our ancestors came from the Scottish line and not English. Do know that there were Wightmans of the Scottish line but there is not much written about them. Do not know if there was any connection to the English line. There were Wightmans in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticutt, Georgia and South Carolina. I do not know if my ancestors came to America to escape the potatoe famine in Ireland? Would appreciate any assistance or comments. God Bless!! Jesse Wightman | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
