Some researchers believe that the Gann/Ganne family originated in France (perhaps near the village of Gannes)and spread from that country to other western European and British Isle countries. Since we have been unable to document this belief, The Gann Historical Society and Library in the United States has undertaken a DNA study to determine which Gann/Ganne families are related genetically. We are seeking participants for this study. The Gann family organization will pay the cost of the DNA test. The participants must be males who bear the Gann/Ganne surname. Collecting the sample is simple, not painful and does not require a visit with a physician. One must only brush the inside of the cheek with a brush provided in the collection kit sent from the testing laboratory, Family Tree DNA, which is associated with the University of Arizona. As of Feb., 2005, over 50 Gann/Ganne males have been tested. Over half of those tested have matching DNA.
