Seeking contact with descendants of John Martin KEARNEY (1808-1897) and his wife, Honorah/Hannah LYONS. (1802-1884). John Martin was a stonemason from Abington, Limerick, Ireland, who immigrated to Queensland, Australia in 1863 with his wife and several of their children. They settled in Rockhampton. John Martin and his sons operated a road building business and hotels in Central Queensland. Their children were: 1. Martin John KEARNEY (1833-1864) – married Bridget O’BRIEN – 4 children (family names of descendants – GARDNER, SCHMIDT) 2. Michael KEARNEY (1836-1863 – died in Ireland) – no issue 3. William KEARNEY (1838-1875) – married Catherine LAWLESS – issue unknown. 4. Thomas KEARNEY (1841-1880) - married Johanna RYAN – 6 children (other family names of descendants – BRIDSON, AUSTIN, MURPHY, KERWICK, LINNING, MELGERT, MARTIN, YOUNG, ALLEN) 5. Mary Catherine KEARNEY (1846-1903) – married Timothy P. CRANLEY – 5 sons 6. James KEARNEY (1848-1874) - no issue 7. Bridget Mary KEARNEY (1851-1938) – married William SHEEHY – 8 children (other family names of descendants – MURRAY) A family history of this Queensland KEARNEY family is being researched for publication in 2006, and we are keen to include the family stories of all descendants.
