I am looking for information on the Villeneuve family who lived in Cap Francais,Santo Domingo, Haiti, during the 1790's. They came to South Carolina due to the slave revolt. Although my early history of this family has quite a few blanks ans is not well documented, I believe that Joseph Villeneuve was born in France. He married Maria de la Esperanza of Tarragona, Spain, and they had a son Jean Baptiste Villeneuve who married Catherine Dominique Prevost in Cap Francais. At this point I begin to have some documentation. JBV entered the Port of Charleston, SC on 16 May 1797, on a ship that sailed from Tarragona, Spain. He is listed on the port records as a merchant. JBV and wife Catherine obtained a legal separation in Charleston,SC, on 13 May 1796. Their son Jean Baptiste Villeneuve (my GGGgrandfaather) married Margaret Elizabeth (unknown surname). This JBV died in 1836 at the age of 31. They had at least 2 children Harriett Elizabeth and Joseph Henry. I would like very much to find out about this family during their time in Haiti and before. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
