My great grandmother Anne Maria ADAMS, nee SMITH, born about 1847, lived most of her life in Bucks., England, but consistently stated her birthplace on British censuses as "Paris, France." Her father was Henry SMITH and I know only 2 things about him: on Anne Maria's marriage to Thomas ADAMS in Hillesden, Bucks., in 1882, Henry's occupation is given as Farm Bailiff; and family lore suggests that he may have worked at one time for the Rothschild family as a gardener. Perhaps he was working for one of their French estates when Anne Maria was born. I should love to find any record of her birth and/or her mother's name.
