Family connection to Jonas Baldwin, born 1798 in New Hampshire and moved to Theresa, NY. William George NY and WI I have been working for over 20 years to try and solve a mystery about my Ggrandfather, W. George Baldwin. He was either born in NY or England. The family says England and Census says NY. He was born sometime between 1830 and 1840, depending on which census you believe! He moved to Waupaca, WI sometime in the 1850’s because he married Mary Starks there in 1858. Then they moved back to NY sometime around 1860 because his first four children were born there: Frank, Fred, Nellie and Mattie. Census records show him living with Jonas Baldwin and his wife Ruth Granger Baldwin in 1850 when he was 19. In 1860, he is shown living with Jonas and Sally. His wife, was also living there with him. Also living there were Luther and Warren Baldwin and Mary Smith. In the 1950 Census there were two other children William and George living there too. And yes this William and this George were separate from my Wm. George. They were both born around 1812 and 1814 whereas Luther and Warren were born around 1828 and 1831. In 1870, W George and Mary are shown in the Census in Wapauca, WI. Mary was born in Vermont and she had a sister born in NY. Her family also moved to Wisconsin. Mary and Wm George had a son in 1870 who only lived about two years. In 1874, my Grandfather , Johnson Eugene was born. His mother, Mary, died two weeks later. In 1878 Wm George died. My grandfather was sent to live with his mother’s sister Cornelia Starks Tarr and her husband Johnson Tarr. I don’t know where the other family in NY went. I found Luther and Warren in the 1860 Census living with Jonas, Ruth, Wm. George, Mary and the Smith girl. I don’t know where William or Luther went. I was never able to find a birth record on Jonas, Wm George, William, George, Warren or Luther. As for the children of W. George and Mary, I have never found any birth information on them, except my Grandfather Johnson, or where they ended up living. I only know that Mattie married a Frank Kaiser.
